MOD Kineton is located next to junction 12 of the M40 near Gaydon in Warwickshire. The Coventry Arsenal Munitions Factory in Coventry is just 22 miles/25 minutes drive from MOD Kineton via junction 15 of the M40 and the A46 making it ideally located to bring in shell bodies.
MOD Kineton was originally serviced by rail until the the 1960’s when road transport took over as the preferred mode of transporting ammunition.
The Military railway was taken over by the MOD in 1965 and is still operational today with 33.8km of track and dedicated locomotives and carriages which link to the Banbury to Leamington Spa main line at Fenny Compton.
The railway traverses both main sites and has a dedicated sidings yard at Temple Herdewyke on the Marlborough Barracks site.
